Tacking Point Lighthouse Boadwalk

Emoji

In August 2010 the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise (Sunrise Rotary) made the decision to adopt the restoration and enhancement of the iconic Tacking Point Lighthouse and surrounding headland as a Community Service Project. This followed many years of expressions of concern by the community about the neglected state of the Lighthouse building and surrounding headland. Built in 1887 it is one of the oldest working lighthouses in Australia and the Tacking Point headland is one of the most visited sites in the Port Macquarie region.

Now, after lots of lobying and hard work by the Rotary Club stage 7, the final stage of the Master Plan, is almost ready to go.

A new boardwalk with viewing platforms will be built at Tacking Point Lighthouse, creating an accessible, modern addition to one of Port Macquarie’s iconic landmarks thanks to an investment of $750,000 by the NSW Government..

Funding from Round Two of the NSW Government’s Regional Tourism Activation Fund along with an additional $300,000 contribution from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council will create a space for everyone to take in the breathtaking Port Macquarie coastline. At this stage there i sno firm start date.

Leslie Williams, MP Member for Port Macquarie: "A huge shout out to the members of the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise and particularly Neil Black for their incredible contribution improving this public space over many years. Our community is enormously grateful for your tireless efforts, hundreds of volunteer hours and your ongoing input!"

Quaich Games – Friday 20th January

The battle for the “quaich” - a Scottish drinking vessel given to our club by the Burntisland & Kinghorn Rotary Club in 2020, is over for another year.

Simple games, friendly competition and alot of noise, cunning and bribery - raised some money and had great fun doing it.

Evelyn setting the tone.

Winners are grinners

Some terrific work by Pam's granddaughters. Making sure we left the area in a better state than we found it.

Aluminium Coffee Pod Recycling

Reminder: Bring along your used Nespresso (only) pods this Friday.

Environmental Disaster

It takes 150 to 500 years for aluminium and plastic capsules to breakdown in landfill.

Your coffee pods could be contributing to a global environmental disaster, with billions of the sleek aluminium and plastic capsules ending up in landfill in America, Europe and Australia each year.

Made from a combination of plastics and aluminium with organic matter inside, the coffee pods are not biodegradable.

Sunrise Polio Charity Movie 2023

This year’s charity movie for Polio is The Lost King, the true story of the discovery by an amateur historian of the

It’s the story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country's most eminent historians,

forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England's history.

Critics describe it as “incredible and inspiring, a true example of perseverance and not taking no for an answer”.
