Quaich Games – Friday 20th January 7.15am
The Quaich Games is a test of skill, cunning and bribery (read that as 10% skill, 10% cunning and 80% bribery) where we celebrate the Quaich. A gift from the Rotary Club of Burntisland and Kinghorn, Scotland to our club in 2001.
These games are held each year in conjunction with a BBQ breakfast in a local park. This year they will be held at Stuart Park, Wood St Port Macquarie (the BBQ area near the Sharks and Pirates club houses). This is an all-weather venue.
Come along and join in the fun, and don’t forget to bring some gold coins. An attendance email will be sent out for this event.
Grant Funding obtained to join footpath from Gaol Point to Mrs York's Garden walkway
With the assistance of a Community Building
Partnership Grant from the NSW Government,
Sunrise Rotary in PM are about to embark on
constructing a new pathway between the
Mrs York's Garden and Gaol Point. Access
is currently available, however this is in
part via a concrete path that does not meet any
current requirements for accessibility and
partly via a rocky track. The construction is
planned to commence in February, after the
school holidays.
plan prepared by Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
National Youth Science Forum 2023
Tom Prickett – Is our “NYSF-er” for 2023.
Tom is a student at St Columba Anglican School (SCAS) and is currently down in Melbourne for the NYSF
The NYSF nurtures Australian science and technology talent by immersing students in what a career in Science, technology, engineering, maths, STEM, looks like in real life. Hearing about non-typical jobs and connecting with other like-minded young people has life-long impact. Over 39 years, the NYSF has connected over 14,000 young Australians with science and technology futures.
The NYSF attracts students from all over Australia. In 2023, 41.5% of participants are from remote and regional areas of Australia, and 61% are young women. Making this program accessible, Rotary clubs across Australia provide funding support to hundreds of students in their local community. In addition, 98 students in need have received scholarships, made possible by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, The Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science & Innovation, the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer and private donors.
How is Tom finding it? Right now, Tom is immersed. Word via the family…
“Wednesday 11 Jan – “Day 1 of the NYSF has gone off with a bang. Tom absolutely loves it. He was up ‘til midnight online after the first event with a new crew of NYSF-ers. It’s on-line meetups and speakers this week and then next week he does site visits.
Tom has built a program that relates to his areas of interest – aerospace engineering and astronomy- with visits to The Victorian Space Education Centre, Defence Technology Agency and Melbourne and Monash Universities planned. The choices and opportunities across all areas of STEM are amazing. We’re talking leaders in innovation.”
Sunrise will hear more from Tom and his family on their return.
Sunrise Polio Charity Movie 2023
This year’s charity movie for Polio is The Lost King, the true story of the discovery by an amateur historian of the

It’s the story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country's most eminent historians,
forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England's history.
Critics describe it as “incredible and inspiring, a true example of perseverance and not taking no for an answer”.
