TuTudesk for Africa Campaign
Foundation & International
The following is a joint initiative of Ian Simpson, Rotary Foundation & Jenny Sinclair. International
“Education is the powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”
Nelson Mandella
An estimated 95million+ children in sub-Saharan Africa have no classroom desk availability (this has a huge impact on literacy development &educational performance)
A TuTudesk is a portable & stable desk weighing less than 1kg that rests on the knee & provides an even surface to write on.
The proposed layout has educational elements for primary school learners to promote basic reading, writing & arithmetic.
In the spirit of Christmas giving, Rotarians and friends have the opportunity to purchase a TuTudesk for an African child.
The cost is $35 per desk. These private ‘gifts’ will be included in the Sunrise contribution to the DG Partners Project with appropriate recognition.
The project is supported by combined (4) Rotary Districts of southern Africa & adopted as District partners project by Patti Parsons & RI Presidents partner
The proposed target is 1 desk per member
Application
1. Members & partners / families combine to purchase a TuTu desk for an African child
2. Grandparents purchase a desk in their grand children’s names
3. Sunrise Paul Harris Fellow recipients support the humanitarian endeavours of Rotary Foundation through support for ‘Basic Education & Literacy’
Payment $35 / desk to Treasurer Pam

It was a beautiful day and we had a big positive effect on the garden, leaving the whole area so much better for our involvement.
From planting, to shovelling, to hoing, weeding and picking out those pesky strangler vines and allowing the native plants to thrive.
