It's Easy Being Green!
Don't forget the request from our environmental extraordinaire Malcolm McNeil who's proved it is easy being green if you adopt a long-term vision for the world we want to leave our grandchildren! Please let him know if you can help with the supply of these two items above.
At last week's meeting, Malcolm reminded members of the District initiative which is targeting ZERO WASTE to landfill.
Upcoming Environmental Initiatives:
1) Aussie Back Yard Bird Count - If you have 20 minutes to spare sitting in your back yard or local park doing some bird watching, you can
help this fun attempt to catalogue our biodiversity between

Polio Update - from foundation director ian simpson
Polio in New York
The first case of polio in the US since 2013 was announced recently by New York State.
The unvaccinated New York resident has reportedly contracted a form of polio that can be traced back to the live, but weakened, poliovirus used in the oral polio vaccine. This form of the vaccine has not been used in US since 2000. Health officials said the virus affecting the male patient, likely originated somewhere overseas where oral vaccines are still administered.
What are the two kinds of polio vaccine
Vaccines introduce a harmless version of the polio pathogen to your body. The idea is that they train our immune system to fight off the real germ if you ever encounter it.
The oral polio vaccine, originally developed by Albert Sabin, uses a live but weakened poliovirus that one swallows in a droplet. Jonas Salk originally developed the other kind of polio vaccine. It contains inactivated, dead virus and administered by an injection.
In the western countries, children receive the inactivated polio vaccine at 2, 4 & 6 months of age. It provides nearly complete protection from paralytic polio.
1) Jenny Sinclair has asked Sunrise members to consider volunteering for jobs for the big Sports Awards morning to be held at Panthers on Tuesday 25th October. A volunteer sheet is circulating or contact Jenny via email.
2) Bookings for the event must be made by October 13. Cost per head is $25. The booking link is below
